Challenge

As Isadore grew and scaled its ecommerce ambitions, it knew it had to remain committed to upholding sustainable practices every step of the way.

Isadore has many sustainability initiatives, most of which are focused on the production process. However, Isadore also wanted to find ways to lower its environmental impact through marketing automation (while meeting business goals at the same time). 

In particular, the brand wanted to tackle ecommerce returns, which accounted for $890 billion worth of merchandise in 2024 alone. The more returns Isadore has to process, the more shipping and packaging they use, resulting in greater waste and emissions. Isadore was looking for an easy way to reduce the return rate and lower its environmental impact.

Solution

To help address these challenges, Isadore is now using Bloomreach Engagement to help lower ecommerce returns and recommend more eco-friendly products to customers. 

Key to this are on-site weblayers that customers see while shopping online. One weblayer focused on ensuring customers could get the sizing help they needed at checkout and would connect them directly with Isadore’s support team for assistance if necessary. 

The purpose of this weblayer is two-fold: to ensure customer satisfaction with the products being delivered and to prevent customers from ordering multiple sizes of the same items (and returning one or more of them). 

Any customer who put two or more of the same item in their shopping cart (of different sizes) saw the weblayer offering them an option to get sizing help. 

In addition to efforts to minimize returns, Isadore is also using Bloomreach Engagement to recommend more eco-friendly products. 

Isadore’s “alternative” collection features not only a bold design for riders but is also made from 100% recycled materials. The company sent an email campaign that featured personalized product recommendations encouraging customers to “minimize environmental impact without compromise.” By carefully selecting and combining recycled materials with varying properties, Isadore is using Bloomreach Engagement to offer customers a quality kit while reducing their impact on the planet. 

Isadore has many other active and ongoing sustainable commerce initiatives. They include: 

  • Repairs and Crash Replacement Service: So customers get the most out of their Isadore apparel and reduce their ecological impact, Isadore offers a crash repair service for all products. This helps avoid repairable apparel being sent to a landfill. 
  • Removing virgin plastics from production: Isadore produces more products from recycled materials than virgin plastics. In 2023, 100% of bibs and tights used recycled face fabric and bio-foam.
  • Using local manufacturers: Isadore keeps manufacturing local to the European Union and works with Bluesign and Higg-certified factories as much as possible.

We’ve created a whole collection made from only recycled materials, and it’s been really successful in terms of sales.

Results

Isadore successfully reduced returns with the sizing weblayer, which led shoppers to its support team to help with fitting questions. 

Since the weblayer was created and turned on, over 69% of customers removed a product from their cart after being prompted with the weblayer (vs. 40% before). As a result, Isadore saw a 29% decrease in potential ecommerce returns thanks to the sizing weblayer. 

These results were achieved thanks in part to Isadore’s hard work inside Bloomreach Engagement and the enablement provided by the Bloomreach Academy and Bloomreach Client Services. Bloomreach Academy helps professionals from Isadore and other Bloomreach customers learn the skills they need to succeed with their usage of the platform.
