The Best Employers Research of Dutch daily paper NRC is a scientifically based research regarding ‘Employers’ Best Practices’. Mirjam Baars of research agency Satisaction executes the research, which was developed in partnership with the University of Tilburg.
Jeroen Verberg, CEO and co-founder of Hippo: “Creating a company culture that allows smart people to excel and innovate together has always been one of the cornerstones of our company. To do that, we have borrowed many ideas from the open source community, such as the principle of giving back knowledge to the crowd you leverage. This implies that keeping up with the crowd is not enough. You need to innovate constantly. We have translated that approach into personal learning goals for every employee, as well as into our ‘ Hippo Fridays’. Our hiring process is reflective of this philosophy, requiring unanimous approval from the prospective employee’s future colleagues. Candidates are asked to prepare a relevant assignment, e.g. a development task, or a sales pitch, which is judged together with the future team members. Our open source ethos is very much appreciated, which is confirmed by the results of our own employee satisfaction survey every year, and also by the excellent ranking in this Best Employers Research of NRC.”
